Statute Of Limitations

A law prescribing time limitations on the right to bring a lawsuit. Failure to bring the lawsuit within the prescribed time will result in dismissal of the case on the grounds the suit is time-barred. For example, in California, the prescribed time to bring a lawsuit for personal injuries is two years from the date of the incident. Statutes of limitation are strictly enforced.
