The Truth Behind Political Secrecy – Other Intelligent Life

Just as we must move beyond the illusion that we are separate from our Earth family, we must also move beyond the illusion that we are separate from those who share the cosmos with us. Just as every one of us is an integral part of creation, so are those inside and outside our galaxy. They too are parts of the whole. This article considers the dangers of secrecy and the need to expand our understanding of the cosmos.

The Internet has changed the dynamic of human communication and has increased the potential for ordinary citizens to see what their leaders are really like—to see the truth behind the public facade.

In the case of WikiLeaks and other publishers that reported on the leaks, our official government response was predictable: shoot the messenger.

The real irony is that the level of secrecy allegedly breached by Private Bradley Manning was among the government’s lowest levels of security classification. The truth is that none of the released documents fell under the classification of “top secret.”

In fact, up until the last decade, our government had over thirty different levels of the classification “top secret.” Some of them were, and still are, off-limits to the President of the United States!

The highest top secret classification was labeled “Cosmic Clearance”—and that brings us to our next truth topic.

The Truth about Other Intelligent Life Forms

Over the past twenty years, there has been an avalanche of credible evidence that shows we are not alone in the universe. There is also convincing evidence that many governments, including our own, have known this for many years.

The real issue is not whether off planet intelligence exists, but whether, in a post-disclosure world, we will automatically assume these beings to be hostile and act accordingly.

Given our planet’s history of inflicting war and violence against its own, it is difficult to imagine that we will treat those that come from the stars any differently.

If you doubt this, just consider how we treated Native Americans when their presence was discovered, in what European colonists thought of as a faraway land. The irony is, of course, that is was the European colonists who were the faraway visitors!

According to a growing number of scientists and astronomers, conscious intelligence exists everywhere in the universe, and earthlings are but one form of it.

Alone? You Must Be Kidding.

The Drake equation, formulated by astronomer and astrophysicist Frank Drake of the University of California in the early 1960s, was among the first methods to mathematically calculate the probability of intelligent extraterrestrial life within the Milky Way.

According to Drake’s calculations, more than ten thousand planets in our own galaxy are likely to have advanced civilizations. And ours is just one of trillions and trillions of galaxies!

In early 2001, a study by scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory showed that one out of every thirty-seven sun-like stars is likely to have an Earth-like planet in its orbit. That means there may be billions of Earth-like planets in the Milky Way Galaxy alone.

If this is the case, the Drake estimate of intelligent life elsewhere is a strikingly low estimate. Some scientists believe that many advanced extraterrestrial civilizations are simply no longer around. Why? They suggest that the very technology that makes these advanced civilizations advanced may also be the technology that renders them extinct. In other words, they never make it past their own technology, due to the statistical probability of self annihilation.

Similarly, there is no guarantee that Earth will survive long enough to communicate with other advanced civilizations. We earthlings may never get the chance to phone home from other parts of our galaxy.

Just as we must move beyond the illusion that we are separate from our Earth family, we must also move beyond the illusion that we are separate from those who share the cosmos with us. What we know as intelligent infinity is just that—infinite. Just as every one of us is an integral part of creation, so are those inside and outside our galaxy. They too are parts of the whole.

We must face the fact that nothing in infinity is outside of infinity. Infinity is all there is and everything there is. Earth beings, like beings elsewhere, are part of this great cosmic intelligence.

As we look out at the stars—the realm of outer space—we might also want to consider the realm of subatomic space—the realm of the quantum. When we examine this realm, it appears to be as spacious and as infinite as the space and stars above us.

It seems that we human beings are poised between two infinite realms, yet we still somehow believe not only that we are finite, but also that we are the only ones in the universe!
