The affected area is cut out. A pleurectomy involves removing the tumor and surrounding tissue from the lung. This procedure may involve removing part or all of a lung. Surgeons perform peritoneal surgery when the disease affects the peritoneum or abdomen. This surgery removes tumors in an effort to make the patient more comfortable.
