What if I can't afford a divorce attorney for the divorce?

Some people cannot afford a divorce attorney to help with the divorce proceedings. Generally, if there is a significant difference in the spouse's incomes, the judge will order the spouse with the higher income to pay some or all of the divorce attorney's fees of the other spouse.

Also, if you have no current income but are likely to get substantial property when the case is over, a lawyer may take your case and make arrangements to be paid from the proceeds of the property you receive in the divorce.
