How can you tell if you're an alcoholic?

Addiction & Recovery Sponsors

Dr. John Ewing had developed a short questionnaire in response to this question:

  • Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking?
  • Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
  • Have you ever-felt bad or guilty about your drinking?
  • Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (eye opener)?

If you answered, "yes" to any one question, this questionnaire suggests that you might have an alcohol problem. If you answered, "yes" to more than one question, it's likely that a problem exists.

If you or anyone you know has a problem with alcohol, we advise you to seek help either from a doctor or your local Alcohol Anonymous fellowship.
