State Laws
How much money does my employee receive?

Usually, the amount will depend on how high the employee's wages were before losing the job - the higher the wages, the higher the unemployment insurance payments.

If the employee takes a part-time job while receiving unemployment insurance payments, the payments might be reduced by the amount of money earned in that new job.

How long can my employee collect benefits?

Usually, the employee can collect unemployment insurance benefits for up to 26 weeks after losing the job. (If the U.S. economy is in bad shape, the government might increase the length of time to up to a year.)

The payments likely will stop when the employee takes a new job that pays as much as the unemployment insurance payments did.
